Abstract
Summary of the research findings
Substance use occurs at a high rate in persons with a psychiatric disorder. Genetically informative studies have the potential to elucidate the etiology of these phenomena. Recent developments in genome-wide association studies (GWAS) allow new avenues of investigation.
Up to 1,232,09 European ancestry individuals with substance use, 53,293 European ancestry ADHD cases, 72,517 European ancestry anorexia cases, 51,710 European ancestry bipolar disorder cases, 173,005 European ancestry major depressive disorder cases, 105,318 European ancestry schizophrenia cases, 1,475,951 European ancestry controls
